Katie, Anna & Kassidy
How would you like to attend a school where the Lord shows up and the whole class, including the teacher, is in the Spirit? Welcome to the Comenius School of Creative Leadership (CSCL).
Katie, a high school sophomore, and her family moved to Charlotte in 2003, where Katie began public school. During her first week, the entire school went into a lockdown—guns had been brought to school: "There were police in and out of our school all the time." After one year, Katie was able to transfer to MorningStar's K-12 Christian School, CSCL, and the distinction was immediate and impacting. Katie's mother, Kim, says, "On the first or second day of school, Katie came home amazed. The Spirit of the Lord showed up in one of her classes and kids were lying all over the floor. Time came to move to the next class, and she had to step over students to get there." From lockdown to laid out in the Spirit—it was obvious her school experience was drastically changing.
CSCL is releasing youth who are equipped in character, leadership, spiritual gifting, and intelligence. The goal is to see each student devoted to the Lord and with a resolve to radically advance His kingdom in their sphere of influence throughout life.
Katie and her sisters, Anna, in the sixth grade, and Kassidy, in the fourth grade, are also CSCL students. They each say that attending CSCL has significantly changed their life. Katie shared the impact on her own life: "My walk with God has dramatically increased since I came to CSCL. The atmosphere at the school makes it easy to go higher with the Lord and not get distracted. It makes a huge difference when all of your friends and your teachers are on fire for God and love Him as much as you do." These are significant words from a girl who was already leading her public school friends to the Lord and baptizing them.
"Their confidence of ministering to others is so much stronger since they began at CSCL," their mother, says. "Today, it is not uncommon for the girls to minister to a stranger while we are running errands. They hear from the Lord for someone they see, and comfortably walk up and minister to them. They are so much more sensitive to hearing His voice and confident in acting on it. It amazes me."
Al Wood, former NBA player and current CSCL principal, seeks to bring forth the diamond-in-the-rough inside of each student: "I find it extremely satisfying to see a person discover something deep within them that they did not know they possessed." Katie's experiences line up with Al's vision: "I know my giftings much better now. My teachers see the strengths inside of me, often before I do, and put me in situations to stir up and activate those gifts. If they see you have a teaching gift, you'd better believe you will be up there teaching at some point soon."
Getting the students "out there," using their spiritual gifts, is a vital part of this school. Katie is developing in prophetic evangelism. She used to lead her friends to the Lord in public school, but is now coupling her prophetic gift with evangelism to lead people to the Lord through a word of knowledge in power. As Paul writes in I Corinthians 2:2 and 2:4-5:
For I determined not to know anything among you, except Jesus Christ and Him crucified (NKJV).
And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God (NKJV).
Anna's gift of dream interpretation is emerging. Kim says, "Before we moved to Charlotte and MorningStar, we didn't know the Lord speaks to us through dreams. Now Anna receives prophetic dreams, and as she learns to interpret them, they give her direction. She helps the whole family interpret their dreams and often sees things we don't." Kassidy, the cutest, huggable, little nine-year old you could be around, has gifts of compassion and intercession stirring in her. Kim adds, "It is not uncommon after they have ministered to a stranger while we are running errands for Kassie to get in the car and start weeping over the person's soul and for their salvation."
With such a focus on spiritual equipping, do the academics suffer? Hardly. Compared to public school, all three girls feel this is a higher level of academic learning. Katie shares, "CSCL teachers push me harder than the teachers did in public school. There, things felt rushed, but here we have a lot of one-on-one time, so we are learning things deeper. The teachers also tie in the spiritual aspects of the Lord's heart into all of our subjects. The teachers have a true desire to teach and impart truth and love for their subject. It makes you want to learn."
Financially, Katie, Anna, and their sister Kassie were all able to attend CSCL, thanks to scholarships. Their mother, a single mom at the time they transferred from public school, was also in the MorningStar School of Ministry. Even though CSCL is less expensive than the average private school in the area, she was not able to afford sending three girls to CSCL. They were able to transfer on scholarship, available from private contributions like yours.
The Lord is surely moving in a powerful way at the Comenius School of Creative Leadership. His heart is for His children to be fully equipped and released in an atmosphere of excellence and love. We are facing some of the most exciting times to be alive, and the Lord is truly giving us the power and the provision to train up a generation of world changers. We are looking forward to all He has put before us to do, and we are very thankful that we get to be a part of such an awesome work of the Lord on the earth!
Katie, Anna, Kassidy and their family are moving away this summer as their family embarks on a new journey. Their family will be establishing a pilot school in Nebraska from their observations of CSCL. After seeing the impact of CSCL, Kim feels a Spirit-filled, academic school is vital to the development of her kids, "I know my girls have been trained while being here and will release an impartation into this new school. They will show other kids that they can hear from the Lord and can do mighty works with Him—today." They will show others the reality of moving in power as children and teens, not waiting until they become adults.
